Had to do a book title for day 6 AGC challenge. I chose this book because I had heard the young author on a talk show discussing her book and right away I thought of my book club. I had been thinking we needed to mix things up and read a new genre and this book is in the young adult or teen category. I loved the book because it is such a timely subject and Angie Thomas's writing is superb! I was on pins and needles waiting to hear what the others had to say when we went to lunch and book talk.
Almost all of the ladies are retired elementary school teachers so we always have a lively discussion and they loved the book but one of my friends said to me Corky I am so glad you picked this book for us to read because it is the best book I've ever read and this should be required reading in the schools! Needless to say I was so pleased that she said that and that they all liked it. I spread the word where I can to friends, family and people at work (I work in a library) and I really enjoy my job. This story is about a young black man being killed by a cop and the aftermath. I loved the family and all of the characters in the book because she made them real, complicated and flawed. But the family has expectations and have each others back no matter what. Thanks for stopping by!
