Journaling: "Our daughter, Grace Kelly Davies, was born on Wednesday, January 10 at 4:08 p.m. She weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19 inches long at birth. Everything went very smoothly. Tim and I arrived at the hospital as scheduled. We had to wait a few minutes for a room to be ready for us — and apparently we got the last delivery room available! Dr. Hunt came in to check on me around 9 and broke my water. At that point I was around 4 centimeters dilated. I was hooked up to an IV with fluid and Pitocin, plus all the maternal and fetal monitors. They had to run some bloodwork to make sure the Heparin was out of my system before I could have an epidural. By the time the bloodwork came back clear, I was ready for some pain relief! An anesthesiologist came to administer the epidural — which was fantastic — and after that I went to sleep.

Our nurse, Pat, came in around 3 and woke me up. When she checked me, she surprised us all by announcing that the baby was “right there” and I was ready to go! She called Dr. Hunt to come in. The doctor arrived by around 3:30 and Grace was born just after 4. I have to say I was surprised by how easy the whole process was! And then we were there with our new baby daughter!"
