Wow, just reading this post makes me shiver. We always have the Artic weather coming down from our neighbors in Canada. This morning the temp was so cold it is extremely dangerous to people and especially animals. The skin has a great possibly of frost bite within 10 minutes without protection on the face, hands and feet. Eye protection is suggested also.
Living here deep in the Mountains many problems arise with the homes here. Because of the mountains many homes are built on top of ledges of stone. This creates many problems with homes freezing especially the water and loss of heat with furnaces. Many use wood or pellet stoves instead of oil (only in need) and the dangers of fires are increased greatly due to the use of electric heaters. Fires are difficult to put out as the water freezes to quickly it hinders saving a home.
The mountains are beautiful, but there are so many sad difficult disasters also as we are a small community who steps up to help families rebuild a new life. We may be a poor community money wise but a rich community in people with heart.
