Journaling:
Dana I can’t believe that we have been friends now for over a Quarter of a Century! Not many people have what we have and for that I am thankful. We have had our ups and downs and long distances apart but through it all we have survived and became better friends. I am told by your mom and dad that we met at the Middletown Swim Club when we were 4 years old and then again when we went to Middletown Village Elementary School. We weren’t in each others classes much but we did do Brownies together and I think that is where our friendship began. It was fun growing up with you. You were the one I looked up to and admired when I was so unsure of myself. To me you had it all, a great family, a nice personality and a pretty face. I felt sort of inadequate in that way but for the most part you tried not to make me feel that way.

In elementary school we had our moments for sure. We didn’t really have the same sort of friends but you did seem to try to include me in your birthday parties and activities. It was also so much fun playing soccer with you on the Hurricanes and the Rowdies. Loved those bangs Dana! Is it possible you played soccer just to be around the boys? And how could I not mention our trips to Friendly’s! We learned how to snoop on my brother and be given money to get lost! Wow what a concept! Oh, and I won’t forget our not having enough money that one time either.

I am so glad that I got the chance to visit you in London in the summer before 8th grade. I mean it was the first time I ever shaved! Remember that? And of course my running away because of something about a monkey…but it was a great trip, one I won’t ever forget. When you moved back in 10th grade it was really evident how different we were. I was kind of nerdy and you were well you. I think you were just trying really hard to fit in and to find your way in North. We didn’t hang out much but I won’t forget my Sweet 16 birthday party. I am so glad that you came. After high school we went to college and lost touch for awhile again. You know me I was terrible with a phone. You were the one I have to credit for us staying in touch. If it wasn’t for your persistence we would have definitely drifted apart permanently.

It was interesting to get that call asking me to be your maid of honor in your wedding to a guy named Jimmy. Thank god that wedding never happened hugh? But that phone call is what really helped to connect us once again and brought us some interesting adventures. We remained in contact through your move to Atlantic City, your move back to Middletown, my marriage to Bobby and then our move to Ohio, your marriage to Mike, the birth and adoption of my kids, and the birth of your kids.

Don’t you remember us talking about how you would be the first to get married? Little did I know what my life held in store for me. So here we are in our early 30’s closer now than when we were younger. It feels good this way. I look forward to our calls and our emails. You have been there for me through all of my family troubles. We feel comfortable venting to one another. I know I could tell you anything and have done so numerous times. Our friendship sort of grew upon itself didn’t it? Now I look forward to going home to see you and your family as much as I can.

Not only are we friends for life we are forever sisters. Bobby and I are thrilled that we are the godparents to Madi and Devin and you are the godparents to Ajay and Ava officially. I hope you know that our children have officially tied us together forever. So here’s to many more memories Dana…hopefully for at least another Quarter of a Century!
