A friend suggested a good way to use scraps instead of hoarding them is to make a card with the leftovers from the layout - as soon as you finish the layout. So that's what I did. And I challenged myself to use stuff that I've had lying around but always forget to use, like some acrylic stamps, ribbon, and a safety pin.
