This is beautiful -- that's the problem with all these wonderful, intricate things -- they are so hard to dust. I'm glad he was able to do some restoration to it :)
beautiful! your son in law did a great job, I really like the sheep, and i find this interesting, I thought the alpine-ish trees on my little plastic nativity scenes were funny, but I see the tradition goes way back.
this is awesome, and its fantastic the your sil could help out with the restoration of it for you. you should get a glass case (like a doll case) and store it in that so the elements can not get to it.
My father gave this music box to my mother for Christmas 60 years ago. I inherited it and over the years have sadly watched it deteriorate. My wonderful son-in-law with the steady hands restored most of it this week. See the tiny bunny at the back? He has a new ear, the cherubs holding stars had lost their poles, yellow paint had flaked off heads, a cherub's horn and wings were missing. I had to take Qtips and dust and clean it ever so gently. It is still needing cleaning but I don't want to disturb it further. It has a very rich mellow sound as it plays Silent Night.
