This is a thirty foot, hand carved redwood statue of a Voyager. Most people think Minnesota was settled by Scandinavians but actually NOT! French trappers and traders were first but all moved out when the Germans and Norwegians and Swedes came as having a neighbor within 10 miles was just too crowded for them. They left behind lots French place names like Mille Lacs, and lac qui Parle, Folle Avon, Hennepin etc. See the ties just below his knees? Trappers had to carry 200 pounds of furs on their back to the trading post, often 100 miles away. If they "blew out" a knee there was no one to save them and they had to leave a year's work behind and crawl out or die. Those ties saved their knees.
