This layout marks the moment I first say the boy in my baby. It was during the summer, just before he turned 5 and I took this snapshot of him listening to something his grandfather was saying. When I got the picture back, I almost cried. Where were the innocent chubby cheeks of my preschooler? This picture gave me the first look of the boy and teen he would become. While it isn't your traditional milestone, it definitely marks time in a very real way for me as a mom. This patterned paper from Crate Paper, screams for a circular design. I knew that I wanted to base the page around the shape. It also reminded me of the theme of ‘time passing’. To ground the photos, I created a circular base with pale yellow vellum and blue patterned paper. It almost looks like a giant circular pocket in the center of the page. It also serves to really highlight the photos in a page that is very heavy on the embellishments. I created a pattern of tiny wooden stars and enamel dots all the way around to serve as a frame around the photos as well. The title and journaling areas were kept pretty simple with a journaling card and chipboard letters from October Afternoon's Daily Flash. I added handstitched arrows in red floss around the layout to add a pop of color and texture to the pale background.Combining shape, repetition and photos I love to document an offbeat milestone in my little guy's life - it's why I love scrapbooking!
