We have always liked praying mantises. They are such cool looking insects. One year at Walgreens a large one landed on our drive thru. Vince was very Jealous as he wanted to see one but at least I got pictures. I also saw one at the dog park once which was very cool. I discovered that they sold mantis eggs at garden stores to help control insect pests. I purchased egg sacks and we put them outside but never saw them hatch or ever say any Manti for that matter. I tried again the next year and bought some plastic containers that I covered with screen to allow air on. I put some sticks and dried grass in the bottom. They did hatch and we released most of the hatchlings into the yard or into the woods by our house. Two stayed and we kept them as pets. We purchased fruit flies and then crickets when they got larger for them. Sadly, one passed on its own for unknown reasons. The other one fell during a molt and injured itself and we tried to get it to survive. We discovered online you could give them cat food and we did. We tried to get her through to the next molt but sadly she perished. Occasionally we have seen Manti around the neighborhood and wonder if they are descendants of the ones we released. I made the mantis using different shapes with my cricut explore.
