I really love this paper and I thought it was a good back drop for such a beautiful soul as Blossom was.

We never expected to lose Blossom so young or so soon. She seemed to be doing great her blood work came back from the vet in June perfect and she was healthy, happy and active. She looked great and was so vital and alive. Her colitis was under control and we had found a diet that worked well with her.
It all started when she got a scratch on her eye she had had them previously. We knew she was prone to them and had been through this before. I took her to an eye care specialist. They had to debride the wound and they gave her an aesthetic to do it. She had a bad reaction to it and it caused a case of pancreatitis. We started her on the usual course if bland diet and famotidine and antibiotic as she had mild cases in the past.
She developed a cough and when I took her to the vet they listened to her lungs and they sounded good. I declined x-rays as I did not think they were needed. I thought with the stress of the eye scratch, the reaction to the anesthesia and the stress on her body she had picked up a virus. She was vaccinated against Bordetella and I thought it was nothing serious. They gave her an antibiotic Doxycycline and the cough disappeared. Her appetite was good and she seemed fine.
Then her appetite declined again we though maybe she had not recovered entirely from her bought of pancreatitis and we needed to be more aggressive with the treatment. I made an appointment with the vet first thing the next morning after I got off work. The night before we took her in she was having difficulty breathing and Vince almost took her to the emergency vet.
We took her to her appointment and when they took her in block to draw blood she coughed up blood. They did and x-ray and it looked like a night sky with diffuse patches of white throughout. Our veterinarian called Buffalo Grove Specialty vets and we transported her there. The veterinarians there did several tests and discovered she also had periocarditis. She wither had lung cancer or blastomycosis a fungal infection of the lungs. The prognosis was not good either way as the disease was to advanced. We were in shock. The veterinarian was wonderful and kind and she advised us the most humane thing to do was to let her for.
We made the very painful decision to do so. She passed peacefully while Vince and I petted her and told her how much we loved her.
We had no warning and never expected cancer. We watched everything she ate so carefully. We did blood work twice a year in the hopes of detecting any issues. She was doing great up until the last few weeks and the only sign of a lung issue was a cough which disappeared a day after starting the antibiotic.
These are the last photos I took of her on my phone before we nad the veterinarian come in and we said goodbye.
