We haven't started school yet here, but I'm preparing myself. This photo isn't related to school, but he looks so grown up in it…I thought it went with the theme of the layout well enough. When I thought ‘school’ I was immediately drawn to this stencil paper by Jenni Bowlin. And since my jar of washi tapes was already dumped on my desk the idea was born. To line the tape up with each letter I first layered the stencil paper onto the background cardstock and lightly penciled the letters. You don't have to do the complete letter, just the outer most edges so you can see the height and width of each. When you lift the stencil paper off it looks like a bunch of scribble scrabble, but working one letter at a time it comes together quickly. I tore small strips of various tapes and placed them over each letter sketch on the background. I periodically placed the stencil back on top of the background to make sure I was still on the right path. I kept my photo/journaling area confined to one area of the page because I didn't want to cover up much of the cool background I made. A few tags, strips of tape, and little embellishments later I was done!
