*CS* I really like the star shape of the pics. Have you thought of matting the pictures with some doodling? Just a few lines or stitches so that they don't look lost on the background CS. You could try with a pencil and see if you like it then use your white pen (or a blue pen). The ribbon that separate the LO in 2 is a great idea. Overall, I really like this LO and might steal some ideas from it for a 4th July LO.
