this is a layout where I challenged myself by using some basic grey papers in colors & patterns outside my comfort zone. I have to admit that I just recently gave up buying BG because no matter how much I loved the papers they just didn't go with my scrapping style. I think the reason I was able to incorporate that large paper was because I added in that little bit of dotted paper in brighter colors (from a different collection), since dots are in my comfort zone. Also, using the gelatos on my cardstock allowed me to draw focus to the bright blues in the layout and away from the distressed, darker tones. I know that it only helped things that my photo was not very busy.
I am lifting the design of the page from a layout by Stephanie Howell, of the same name. One of the things I truly loved about her layout was the use of yellow, foam thickers in the same font. However, when I went to do my title I realized the only letter I had left that I needed was an 'e'. I dug through my stash and found these chipboard ones from a studio calico kit that were white with a light blue design. I colored them with chalk ink and now I think they fit the layout more than the yellow foam ones would have. Still seeking to make a dent in my stash, I used most of a sheet of 7 Gypsies rub-ons. I had forgotten how awesome their rub-ons are! Lastly I punched the butterflies out of some tissue paper I got on clearance at Target and topped them with some Heidi Swapp bling from 'back in the day". tfl!
