The journaling, found on the next page: My wonderful grandma Iva Miller (known to everyone as Gobby
thanks to me) and her twin sister, Ida, were so very very close.
To both of them, nothing was more precious than family --
except their special relationship. I remember asking Gobby once
"why is Aunt Ida your favorite" and she looked at me like
I'd missed a grade or two in school and said, "Why Annie --
she's my TWIN". OK. From that day on I knew twins were
special. Every year of my life until 1959 when my dad died,
both families got together to celebrate their birthday, March
19, 1903. Aunt Ida had five children and Gobby had two.
All of the grandchildren could come to the party which the
daughters and daughter-in-law took turns hosting. I don't
think they ever invited any of the other brothers and sisters
to these celebrations. I think it was a special day just for
the two of them and their families. Aunt Ida's children and
Gobby's children were the closest of the cousins, just because
their moms were so close. Harriet, Lillian, Lila, Larry, and
Lonnie were Aunt Ida's and Duane and Jean were Gobby's.
The only shadow on their relationship was Aunt Ida's husband.
Gobby and Grandad tried to never judge anyone, and to
love everyone -- but Art, Aunt Ida's husband, was just too
much of a challenge for both of them. However, the four
of them went on trips together, did many things together,
because of Gobby and Ida's special bond. Gobby once said,
"Oh Art -- I can take him or leave him. Rather leave him
but since he's Ida's hubby I guess I can't do that." Another
thing I remember was being asked by friends or cousins,
"which one of the twins is YOUR grandma?" and I would
always say, "the prettiest one."
