Fascinating to read more of the Vietnam culture. The young people wanting fairer skin is very interesting and kind of sad, too. You've really captured a slice of life here, in this beautiful LO, Lesley.
Beautiful page....could be right out of a travel brochure!!!! LOve the photo with the lady and the bike with the produce piled on it....great photos!!!!
What a wonderful layout this is! I love how you placed the photos and your description gives so much meaning to this page! Love the color palette and details too! Just perfect!!!
thats crazy how everyone here is laying in the sun trying to be as dark as they can- while over there they covet the fair look. great journaling! loving the mix of papers and the wonderful photos.
What a charming page, and I loved reading your description. It reminds me of the book I am reading called "The Spirit Level." I think both you and your daughter would really like it. It's theory is that the health of a society, physical, mental and social, is dependent not on wealth, but on equality, which perhaps explains why the Vietnamese are happy in their poverty.
Nice job with the sketch and you've really mixed all those papers well. I love where you put the journaling which makes it prominent but doesn't take up too much space.
Vietnam is a very poor country although in some areas you would doubt that. However, in the smaller outlying districts poor is dominant but the people are happy with their lot and love their land. The elderly women seem to really struggle as there is no welfare and when their husband passes they have to find work to exist unless they have a large family to support them, therefore they cart long poles on their shoulders with baskets very heavily laden with fruit on each end. The bottom pic is a very elderly lady the top one is how the young do business these days on their bikes, they wear face masks and long gloves, keep totally covered from head to toe because the young don't want their skin to go dark, the cover up to try and get fair skin, it's huge with the young of Vietnam. Then there are the men who lay in hammocks or slouch in chairs on the side of the road (left pic) hoping someone will stop to buy off them. Cricut crt Home Accents for the bottom scallop and the cherry scallop strip. Websters papers.
