The carpet on the stairs was extremely stained, and the top where it meet the kitchen floor was never finished properly... so you can see that Widget is loving the loose ends. So - DH "gave" me permission (he knew I'd do it anyways) to rip the carpet off. So a little bit of elbow grease, and it was off. Now I just need to figure out how to get that carpeted wall board off with out damaging the wall. Looks like when they built it, they did the piece closest to the wall first, and then the stairs, and then the piece that Crispin is pushing on (He looks so much like Cody in this picture - think it's because his glasses were off).

Not entirely sure what I'm going to do with them yet. I have a few ideas.

Edited to add: With a little more elbow grease, I was able to move the stairs - they were only held in place with 5 nails. So I was able to retrieve all the toys that had been dropped down the one open spot. And I was able to remove the carpeted edge closest to the wall. However, the bead board behind doesn't go all the way down, but that's ok - I want to rip it off at some point anyways.
