My great grandfather, William A. Tilling kept a diary while traveling from San Francisco to Kansas City in 1886. I don't know why he went, but think maybe it had to do with the Knights of Pythias that he belonged to. I have the diary (which is written in pencil) and have transcribed a number of pages. This photo was taken a number of years later with his daughter-in-law, my grandmother Frances Arledge Tilling.I've had this paper, called “Traveler's Diary” for ages, waiting to scrap the diary, but had misplaced the diary for a number of years. I found it amongst a number of other things I had misplaced in an archival box in the hall closet!
