ah, this is good for me to read. we're in the early stages of this. don't quite have the diagnosis yet officially for my 7 year old.
i love your story and the determination and creativity he was pursuing reading at this point. thank you.
This made me cry! He is going to love this page when he gets older. Your jouranaling shows how amazing this little boy is and how much you admire his strenght. Thanks for sharing it with us!
My 14 year old also struggles with severe dyslexia. I see the look on your ds's little face and it breaks my heart, 'cause I know what you both are going through. As my ds has gotten older, he's made great strides but still struggles everyday. If you ever need someone who understands your frustration feel free to pm me. I love the lo, BTW. You've really captured your ds's spirit!
Lo about Nathan's dyslexia. I did the title that way cos he finds differentiating between 'b's and 'd' s difficult and the 'e' and 'l' are transposed cos he often does that too. Journaling reads,''Nathan - I can’t imagine how frustrating and painful it must be to stare at a page of words and have them not make sense. Particularly when you really try and focus and sound out and struggle to know what they say. It’s amazing to me that you keep on trying. Many times with gritted teeth and tears, many times so slowly and brokenly that it makes my heart break. You are exceptional in so many ways - you can something once and recall it word for word. You seek knowledge and suck up facts like a sponge. You are always inventing better methods and are insightful beyond your years. I really want you to have the joy of exploring the world through reading. You easily learned the letters and all their sounds. But when they’re formed into words on a page your brain has difficulty organizing them or seeing them for what they are. You have difficulty visualizing them in your brain. But there is hope. We’ve found a way to help to help build up that part of your brain. And in your inimitable fashion you’ve taken the bull by the horns and aggressively pursued the technique. Already, it has renewed your confidence and given you new hope that you can overcome it. It’s always going to take extra effort from you but you’re already making huge improvements. I pray that one day you’ll be able to lift a book and read with enjoyment.'' Paperbilities CS, Pressed petals letters, Doodlebug brads.
