Scrapobooking instructor, Carol Wingert, shared this unique album design at Creative Escape 2006. Her version used a pocketed portfolio found at an office supply store while mine has the pockets and a centerfold insert with bend-back prongs. The prongs allow me to secure notebook papers in the portfolio. I use the prongs to secure trimmed page protectors into the album. I use this album to hold the paint color swatches I get at my local hardware/paint store.

To make this album, simply fold both sides of the portfolio in half having the outside edges fold in to the centerfold. The portfolio will now be half of the width.

I fastened 11 page protectors into the portfolio using the prongs provided. They all stuck out beyond the album covers and needed to be trimmed down. I drew a line (use the album edges as my guide) on the first protector where I would be cutting the page protectors to fit into the album. I removed it and the rest of the page protectors and cut each using my paper trimmer. Then I machine stitched each cut edge to form 11 narrow page protectors which would hold color groups of swatches - red, pink, orange, yellow, green, aqua, blue, purple, brown, black, white.

Finally, I embellish the inside and outside covers being sure to include a ribbon/tie closure that keeps the album covers shut when filled.

I use my color swatches for cut-out letters, punch outs of all kinds, interesting borders, etc.
