Journaling: "18 days to go ...

I feel like I literally get bigger every day! I measured my belly today for the first time — my waist is normally around 28 inches and now it’s pushing 42!

We had an ultrasound earlier this week and learned that the baby weighs 6 pounds, 10 ounces. With that and all the good progress I’m making toward getting ready for the delivery, we really could go at any time. Both Dr. Lublin and Dr. Hunt said they doubt I’ll make it all the way to January 16. Still, Tim and I would both rather have the baby arrive in January instead of December, just so it’s not too close to the holidays. I had two contractions this afternoon, but then they stopped and haven’t come back since (knock on wood), so as we get further into the evening I can feel more confident in saying that today is not the day.

The pregnancy has been easy so far and I’ve always said that I can hold on until mid-January. But I have to say that at this point, I’m starting to feel less comfortable and I can understand why people say they’re ready for the pregnancy to be over. For one thing, I can’t wait to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl! And I feel ready to meet our new little one and get started on the next phase of our life. I think what’s hardest about waiting is that we just have no idea when things could happen — it could be today or tomorrow or two weeks from now! But we’ll just hold on and be patient ... it shouldn’t be too much longer now."
