Journaling- Our first doctor's appointment. We went in expecting to make sure everything was going smoothly. We knew we were pregnant but didn't know anything other than that. When we went in for the first ultrasound, we were very calm and very unaware of what we were in store for. The ultrasound technician asked if twins ran in our family. At the time, I didn't know they did so I said no. Very bluntly she said, "well, you're having them." Frank was so shocked that he started to question her.
Are you sure?
How are you sure?
How many twins have you seen in this office?
Have you ever even seen twins before?
How long have you been doing this?
Did they teach you in nursing school how to look for twins?
Once she showed us the ultrasound, it was clear as day. There were so many questions running through our minds that we didn't remember anything the doctor told us after that. I immediately called my parents to tell them that we were having twins and asked my mom if there were twins in the family. It was only then that she informed Frank and I that my uncle had twins and both of his boys had twins of their own. Also, my dad's mom had twins but they didn't survive.
So there it was. There were definitely twins in both sides of my family. It would have been nice to know then. It would have helped to prepare ourselves. Maybe we would have remembered more of that first appointment!
