I saw this puzzle piece technique in Memory Makers book, "Focal Point" and I had to try it. This is a photo of my college roommate and her husband at their wedding this past December - seemed perfect for the technique. What I did was buy a precut chipboard puzzle rectangle. Then, I backed the photo completely with adhesive using a Xyron machine. Then, I adhered the photo to the chipboard puzzle rectangle. Then I cut a heart shape from cardstock scrap and placed it over the photo with removable adhesive. I then traced the heart lightly with pencil and removed the cardstock. Then, I cut the heart out with a craft knife. I then flipped the photo over so the chipboard puzzle pieces were face-up, and cut the pieces out following the precut puzzle grid (making adjustments where needed when I got to the custom-cut heart). I then sanded the edges of all the pieces to cover up any jaggedness and to make each piece more prominent. I then pieced the puzzle back together and mounted it. Photo by: St. Louis Color Inc.
