Journaling reads, "As a KC-130 pilot for the Marine Corps. Bill has been sent all over the world. He is not always allowed to talk about where he goes or what he does, but after a trip to Bangladesh in November he was unable to keep back his excitement. HIs crew was sent to Dhaka, Bangladesh for a mission. Tthe mission was canceled, and he and his 27 crew members found themselves with nothing to do for 2 weeks in the poorest agricultural country in the world. They made the most of it though. They found a school called the "ABC School" which is run by an American who is trying to give some of the street children of Dhaka a place to learn. These children live on the street and normally spend their days rummaging through garbage looking for food. Bill and his crew spent every day at the school helping the children learn how to count, and read and write English. In Bangladesh, if you can read and write English you can get a job. The children loved the Marines and their generosity. The Marines lavished the children with cricket paddles and balls, toys, clothing, food, popsicles, and other treats. The time that they spent with the children was the best gift they gave them. It may not seem like traditional "heros" work, but if you can imagine children that have never had a new toy or piece of clothing or even fresh food, you would know that these men were heros to them. This experience changed Bill. He came back with a new appreciation for his life, and for what we have as a military family. He will never forget the children at the "ABC School" and hopes to go back this year to see them again.
