The firefighters call it a Retard Drop. The helicopters and bomber planes fill up their tanks with this orange retardant that is actually a clay based fertilizer. Once they fill their tanks and take off, they cannot land until they release their load, so if a load gets cancelled for whatever reason, they still need to find a place to dump it or they can't land. It sticks to everything. I remember one time that we used a retardant drop on a prairie fire that was getting too close to homes and we requested the drop. Unfortunately, the drop not only hit the pole building but also someone's pile of firewood. They guy didn't wash the pole building and called several days later and asked how to get it off as the sun had pretty well baked it on. I suggested he invest in some orange paint and just paint the rest of the building. His parting words were "Know anyone that wants to buy some fire proof firewood?" He at least had a good sense of humor about it. We did save his home from burning so he was pretty happy about that. It came close though.
