i'm so thankful that my school starts the dyslexia workup sooner. my son's a first grader but he's almost 7 1/2, so we're doing the testing now, i'll hear for sure whether it's dyslexia and how severe next month before thanksgiving.
this is a beautiful page to honor him. thank you for sharing it with me.
Great lo, love the "boyish" feel to such a sincere page. Glad he's found an angel teacher & is loving to read, hope he is continuing to progress each day, love this!
What a great thing to take a picture of... that really is an achievement. And you're right about the school waiting too long... the earlier it's caught the better. But at least your son is there now and he knows what it's like to have to work for something you want... and what it feels like when you get there. That is a lesson that some people never learn!
AW!!! Lori this is such a fabulous layout! I am so happy that he has learned to LOVE reading! I'm passionate about reading...So glad he finally has a teacher that understands and puts forth effort to help him succeed!!! Excellent layout! (and what did you promise him for this "photo shoot"??? LOL
This is great! What sweet journaling. I'm so glad he's reading. They miss so much if they don't find the reward in books. So glad he has a teacher who is helping!! I love those photos!
I am so proud that he has finally been able to get the help he needs. To see a child love reading is also a huge bonus, since most would rather play video games or watch TV. This is very heart warming.
oh i love this design!! and awesome journaling. it is a shame that kids don't get the help at the most critical time in their lives, when they are STARTING to learn! Again, this LO is superb!
WTG, TJ!!! I'm so, so happy for him to be on the other side of his struggle! Love the pics, and I have to wonder if he's getting tired of your camera :-) What a great kid you have there Lori, and handsome, too! Love this layout!!!
Wonderful page, wonderful journaling. Don't dispare... my oldest son had dyslexia and with the help of an awesome teacher, he got almost straight A's in high school.. (elementary school was hard - summer school every year, wadded up papers, etc... - but it paid off!) Keep after the school. There is funding available - insist on it. (it's not like it's coming out of the school's pocket). And yea... for the love of reading!!
This is just wonderful Lori!!! I've always tried to instill a love for books and reading in my girls too!!....they love going to the library and bookstores!!....I'm so glad things have been working out this year for him, I've had some friends dealing with the same problem, and they too couldn't understand the thing about waiting till 3rd grade!!....great layout and love your title work!!
i love the look of this LO! It's so simple yet I'm sure it has to mean a great deal to you! I'm glad your son is getting excited about reading more since he got a teacher to give a little push.. that's great. There should be more teachers like that!!
TJ has severe dyslexia. He's had problems reading since kindergarten, when I tried to convince the school to test him, but they wait until third grade to do it. That leaves 3 -4 years of school already completed before kids can begin to get help. It's such a shame that they wait so long to test, because when dyslexia classes could be *the* most helpful, the kids are without specialized help. He scores very highly on IQ tests, but sees words out of order, or sees letters that aren't there in words. He even opened his eyes in the car last week and thought the car was moving backwards. I could go on and on, but I won't. He's been so lucky this year to get a teacher who has helped him take off. He is, for the first time in his life, reading on his grade level this year. When he asked to go to the book store, I had to take along my camera.
Eeeks, just noticed the typo, wonder where he gets it, lol!
