Favorite Things Challenge - my favorite thing about fall - watching my son play soccer!

Journaling reads: One of my favorite parts of fall is watching you play soccer. I can hardly believe that you have been playing soccer for 6 years now, but it sure shows when you take the field and begin controlling the ball. From the first time you took the field, you have demonstrated sheer determination with regard to driving the ball down the field and putting it in the net. Although you tend to keep the ball a bit too long sometimes, your teammates know that if the ball needs to be taken down the field, they can depend on you to get it past several defenders most of the time.

This year, you moved up to the 9-10 year old division, the final age group of the Cabrini Booster’s league. You were placed on a team that eventually became known as the Phantoms, and you could easily have been described as a menace to the other teams. From routinely being able to dribble your way through a sea of defenders to scoring in every regular season game, you had opposing coaches directing their players to “guard #4”.

The group of kids that you played with this season developed into a true team in which every player was important and every player made significant contributions to the success of the team. The final game of the year was the (almost) perfect ending to a great season. Although you lost the game, you and your teammates NEVER gave up the fight! When you were down 4-1 at half time, you still believed you had the chance to beat a team you hadn’t beaten all season and your efforts on the field made everyone watching the game believe you could do it too. The final score may have been 6-4, but if sheer will and effort could have been counted, the Phantoms would have been deemed the champions.
