WINTER SOLSTICE The winter solstice marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The sun appears at it's lowest point in the sky, and it's noontime elevation appears to be the same for several days before and after the solstice. Hence the origin of the word solstice, which comes from Latin solstitium, from sol, "sun" and -stitium, "a stoppage." Following the winter solstice, the days begin to grow longer and the nights shorter. Related links: Astronomical Calendar: Dec. 2004. This is attached to the back of the page, it can be moved over the page for viewing. I took these pictures during one of our only ice storms. It was pretty amazing. The ice on the RT page was near our house. My son loved experimenting with the cold weather. He was just learning to say ...cold...it sounded like...Coooollllddd...when he said it. I spent much time preparing these pages and planning the colors. These are some of my favorite pictures of him. The ice picture is backed with SEI gey paper to give it more of a leyering techn. It lifts up, and under it each of these items is represented by using circle bubbles and square bubbles. I used prisms, ice crystals, snowflakes, warm hats, melting snow, icicles. I used rub-on black letters over an additional ice picture. When this picture is lifted, an additional ice picture is seen with the above words, bubbles and additional elements to represent the cold day. Used: MM bubble clear stickers, Joann essential bubble stickers, Accent factory charms-snowflakes, MM snowflake charms, Basic Grey paper-Dawson collection-illusion-blue griffin-12x12-2 pages. I tried to make the water look like it was extended with fabric on the RT page. I store my pages in scrapworks albums and their 12x12 black pages. These pages were also lots of fun! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. :)
