It is the prettiest Wal Mart I have seen.......but I still dread having to go to Wal Mart. They are so big and so full of people.......I remember the good old days when Wal Marts weren't supercenters.....just nice little stores.
Way better than the Walmart I live next too --- literally. One night the giant letters above the entry way fell off - they still haven't replaced them.
There was a HUGE todo about walmart opening up in Spring hill. There is one about 5 miles away but its technically in Brooksville. AND there is a sam's club close to that, and another walmart on the other end of Brooksville and one the other direction in Pasco Co. [ It got to be a joke around our house " you are now entering the city of Walmart" ]
Their first petition was turned down due to water issues and locale. They persisted and there was a huge court case. Walmart won but was forced to build right beside the sewerage treatment plant. They also had to adhere to style AND lanscaping ordinances.
I should take a photo too. Part of me dislikes walmart for not respecting the wishes of the community while the other part just loves the convenience. Just dont shop there when the treatment plant does its thing. Ewwwww!
Very cool! Wasilla has Alaska's first "superstore" that just re-opened not too long ago (was originally built about 6 or 8 years ago and spent 18 months or so being remodeled) and is done in a "style" as well. I'll try to remember to take a photo of it next time I'm out there (it's about 30-35 miles north of us). Our Eagle River WalMart is also being transformed into a superstore and is expected to be completed by Oct 2008. A new facade is being put into place for this one, too. On a related note, our first Target stores will open in Oct 2008 as well (one in Anchorage, one in Wasilla) and they are prototypes for the rest of the country, in that they too, will not look like the typical "box store" - I believe our Targets will be very "Alaskana" in outward appearance. Okay - back to our regularly scheduled program... Great shot - TFS :) -- kimB
Pretty looking building. Walmart came to England a few years ago and took over a store chain called ASDA. they haven't changed their name and the buildings are much more utility that that one
wow, that is the prettiest walmart I've ever seen... I don't shop at walmart simply because the parking lot at the walmart nearest us is VERY dangerous with lots of creepy people hanging around.
I agree, best looking WalMart I ever saw. I understand the term "Florida Vernacular" but am surprised you would call it "cracker" style. Thought that was a negative term. Anyway, great photo, wish Walmart would spiff up more of their stores.
very interesting. I'd take a Walmart any shape or size if we could just GET ONE! I live in the shopping capital of the North East (literally) and would you believe we don't have a Walmart or a Target! Only a dinky rundown 1960s Kmart!! We have every other store known to mankind I think :) Thanks for sharing this little piece of Florida with us.
Our city has an ordinance that any new construction must be built in the 'Florida vernacular' or 'Cracker' style of design. So this Walmart that was built here about 2 years ago had to follow that vernacular facade. This is a 205,000 SF superstore complete with collapsible shutters. All the buildings in this area have an architectural theme - and you have to admit - it sure looks better than that big grey stone facade Walmart are known for. I tried to get a better picture, but the store is so huge and so busy with all the cars parked in front., this was the best I could get.
