Good job Glenda. I too am from american indian blood, my mother being half Lenape and my father a quarter Cherokee...i am very proud of my red blood and stand tall with it.
Wow. Very amazing treasure. I also have at least one Native Great+ grandmother. I wish I knew more about them too. This lo & journalling are very well done - a treasure for the rest of your family too.
I love this!!! My great grandmother NEVER spoke a word of her/"our" heritage to my grandmother or grandchildren. She lived in fear that they would take them away and put them in a boarding school. I didn't and still don't know much about my heritage. However, some things were told to me after I went to work on a Native Reservation, teaching.
I really appreciate your layout.
What an amazing story. The white man did much damage to this country and its native population. I have an Indian line, its very interesting. I hope one day you will be able to figure it out. Hang it high, and be proud.
This is so interesting. I love to hear these stories...would make a great book! Hugs, Kate P.S. My Dad's mother was Irish and Cherokee...quite a combination!
This is absolutely beautiful! I loved reading the story behind the photo of your great-grandmother. My grandfather would get very angry whenever my Gram mentioned that her grandparents were of American Indian heritage so I know how you feel. I would love to find a picture or some piece of history of them.
Now you are in your element...this is FANTASTIC!!
You must be very proud of your heritage, it surely shows in all the great Native American art you have created.
LOVE this...off to my faves!!
Wow !! this is wondeful and you did an awesome job!!! The Indian heritage is one to be very proud of... I am extremely proud of mine. You did great on this!! I am making it a favorite..
This is a copy of a photo that hung on a relative's wall. I'm not sure which relative. My mom was the next to last child of twelve. Her mother was not proud of her heritage. She even ran the indian agents off that tried to give her her headright. She was one of the younger of this lady's children. My grandmother would not speak of her heritage, she did, however confide in her darker children that she remembered being in a tent with bullets whizzing through it. That's good enough for me. My mother is proud of her heritage and tried to get as much information as she could. She only met her grandmother once, that was when the grandmother passed on. It is a photograph of the actual picture that was on the wall, it has been copied and passed on many times. That's why I cleaned out the background. The picture at some point became wrinkled. But its still beautiful. My mother believes in curses as the people did where she is from. I worked on this thing for at least 16 hours. And, when she was happy with it, she let me print it. I've been wanting to do it for a long time. I guess she figured I had learned enough and let me do her right! There is a fade effect I would rather do, but maybe she figures I will never learn. I like being a storyteller! My sister has been studying the family geneology, I don't know how far she got with it. She did find many interesting things though. I don't know the whole truth, so I won't even try tonite!
