My ancestors, Jack, Betty & Methias Sawyer, were enslaved at Somerset Plantation." Paper in upper right corner is a copy of the authentic record of some of the men, women, and children who were enslaved at Somerset. Journaling in bottom right says: "My paternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Sawyer, was born in [Edenton], North Carolina. Enslaved Africans were brought to [the area] to harvest rice. The envelope contains documents from Somerset Plantation, now a North Carolina historic site.
