I had all these football paper and embellishments but no football player photos....so I approached it from a different angle.

My sister-in-law B.C. (before children) was a cheerleader for the San Francisco 49er Gold Rush squad for 4 years. Using photos from her time there, I decided to portray "football" from the cheerleader's point of view. Each photo represents an aspect or moment in a cheerleaders role during a football game. They are essential because they are the spirit, the energy and drive of the team.

Journalling hidden behind photo under "Victory": Football According to a Cheerleader... is excitement, spirit, power and energy. Melissa loved the thrill of the moment and being part of the "Gold Rush" was not only a high point in her life but also a fulfilling one. Gold Rush 1996-1999

Technique: I used paint to give a few elements a platform to make them pop. I utilized a strip of transparency for the subtitle "A Cheerleader's Perspective" and also gave it a painted backdrop to separate it from the main title "Football". On the journaling block I hand wrote in connected script "spirit" as a decorative border.
