You sound like a scientist, that went right over my poor dim head, but the photo is great and can't wait to see it in two months time. How come you are so patient about this and not patient in the garden?
I am learning so much from this. Now you have to stick to this challenge just so we can all learn more and get to see the fish. Next time I see the tank at my doctor's office I will be even MORE awestruck by it. It is about 5 feet tall and ten feet long. I am sure they had some company install and care for it. Wow
now, comes the hard part...waiting...this tank will look like this for let's say two months.
all my rock in my 20gl has feather dusters, if I add them to this tank, they'll die. The rock you see used to be alive (that is, it had creatures living in/on it), but I didn't have enough room in the 20gl for it, so it's now dead.
My filter wasn't working...dh was able to fix it tonight!!! the dead/raw shrimp was added a few days ago, now we wait. the shrimp will break down and start the cycle. Tomorrow I will test the water to see if I have ammonia yet. Once I have ammonia, then I'll get nitrites, then nitrates, once I have zero ammonia and zero Nitrites, then the cycle is complete. I will do a water change, and 'ghost' feed the tank, then check my levels again. Once i'm happy they are stable (by stable I mean that I do not see any ammonia), I'll start to move my rock over. In time, I'll fish and inverts. It's a SLOW process, but well worth the wait.
