Hi Karen B,
I love this layout! I noticed this LO in your gallery.....and felt a connection with you immediately! I would say that my husband and I have trains in common with you and your husband! We have always loved to watch the big trains going along on their rails! When our children were young, they would get so excited when we spotted a train next to us driving down the highway, or stopped at a train crossing, 1st in line to watch! In 2004 we put our model train track up in our family room!! The guys were working hard to have the train up for the holiday. They finished it Christmas Eve morning! We had a lot of help once the family gathered. It is in our family room! We chose to put it up permenately. It is beautiful! My husband worked very hard on cutting the wood cut out just right and then he made platforms along side the track where we placed our Dept. 56 Dicken's Village collection to 'decorate' the train's track! That also made it so we could enjoy our dept 56 stuff year round! Along the inside of the track , Jerrold (DH) placed strings of clear Christmas lights. When lit and the Dicken's windows illuminated, it is so beautiful and festive! We have enjoyed it very much! And have not regretted putting it in our home for all to enjoy. I would love to share pictures with you if you are interested. I have a LO of it going up. I made that LO when I was just starting to scrap, so it is pretty rough. lol! I can share that and/or photos of it as we progressed with the project. Just let me know. I have enjoyed looking through your gallery! Thanks for sharing!

Journalling as follows:
On Saturday, May 14, 2005, we went to The Great American Train Show in Des Moines. Model trains have been a hobby of Daddy's for a very long time and John loves train noises. We'd been to prior years' shows and this is the best brand of model train shows and sales we've seen. There's a great selection of unusual items, it's a good place to pick up other people's layout ideas, and they have a playarea for when the little ones get tired of shopping, although John fell asleep without getting to play in it. We had fun just spending the day together as a family. John is a great little traveler!
