This lo is for the Daily Dose of Scraps 10 Things challenge. The 10 Things I love about Thanksgiving...
Journaling Reads:
1. My Family…Every year is a family reunion of the Oettings, Sloans, and Bakhaus families. I love seeing my extended family and catching up on all of the everyday things that fill up our lives. We are all so different and at different stages in our lives every Thanksgiving reminds me of what family is all about.

2. Everyone gets involved in making the meal a success. There are family jokes about different food items from my Mom’s Mincemeat Pies that my Dad & I hate, but my Indiana cousins love to the yummy mashed potatoes Scott, the potato master has to make.

3. My girls love to eat with all of the family. They are spoiled by all of the cousins because they are the youngest by many years. I am so thankful that my girls have such a wonderful and loving extended family to call their own.

4. Capturing the moments…my Great Aunt Julie, Scott and I are always taking photos to preserve the memories of our times together.

5. Catching up with family members around the tables during dinner time. Everyone blends together, catching up, telling jokes, and just having a good time. May of my younger cousins are in high school and it amazes me how different high school is today from the 10+ years ago when I was there.

6. The food...need I say more! Especially Aunt Julie’s pies. She is such a great pie maker. We have dessert at least two times on Thanksgiving and everyone is always fighting over the pies!

7. Sharing quite times with members of the family. My cousin Christopher and Libby have developed a special bond. They spend time reading or playing. Libby loves it. This year Emma and my cousin Paul had a ball playing together too. I think back over the years and my cousins Nancy and Kimmie were definitely the same way with me.

8. Teaching younger family members the family game of Euchre. My Great Uncle George and Great Aunt Julie have always loved the game and their love has trickled down to all family members. We learn how to play 6 handed Euchre early in our family. Libby and Emma enjoyed playing with the cards this year.

9. The Family Tournament…each year at Thanksgiving the hosts decide on a game for a tournament. Everyone participates and has to pay a dollar to do so. This year’s game was 4 handed Euchre. We have played basketball, ping pong, air hockey, darts, bumper pool and regular pool in past tournaments. I love that everyone plays, even if it’s out of your comfort zone.

10. The Laughter…telling family stories about previous generations or current activities sure brings out the laughter. My cousin David is a prankster and this year we focused on how to get him back for some of his pranks. My high school cousins Audra, Jake, and Samantha sure had some crazy ways to get him back. My favorite was sprinkling mashed potato flakes on his law before it rains and wait for the potatoes to appear. (HEHEHE!)
