Ok these are pictures of me before ds was born. Its on a function called valagappu which is done before the baby arrives. We have another function called seemandham for which dh's presence is a must. But he was still in Indianapolis so we didn't have the latter function. For the valagappu my hands get decked with bangles & my hair with lots of flowers. Before the function begins I wear the traditional 9 yard saree (in rose) & then sit down for a good breakfast as u see in the picture on the bottom right. My niece & I are eating off a banana leaf which is the tradition during all festivals & functions. Its in the morning so I am really energetic. Its a day of good food, nice gifts & blessings from elders. After I wore all the bangles & received my gifts (mostly cash), I had to bend down & the ladies had to put a little milk on my back. I think it was meant more like an exercise for me. In the evening I wore a black saree which is also the tradition & u may notice I am very tired in that snap. Journaling says:
"On Dec8,2002, I had my valagappu ceremony.I loved all the attention I was getting as it was only a month since I returned from Indianapolis. This function was held at Raghu Perippa's(my uncle) house in Annanagar. It was a fun day but also tiring. Gopi took a picture in the evening with me dressed in black."
This is for Jen;s sketch challenge, & Kathy's use ur scraps. Except for the bg & frame everything else is scraps.
