Another page from my England trip. After staying in London for 5 days our group ventured out into the countryside. Our first stop was Nether Wallop for a picnic, but it wasn't an ordinary picnic.
Journaling reads:
"Imagine my surprise when I learned that Jackie imposed us into the home of strangers. Our destination was Nether Wallop, the basis of Miss Marple's village from the Agatha Christie mysteries. We were to have a picnic. I assumed we were going to stop at a state park, but Jackie had other plans. She presented herself on the doorstep of J and D.A. Smith's home and asked if we could use their yard for our picnic. They said we could, then carried out chairs and tables. We brought our own food and shared with our hosts. It was disconcerting to me to impose myself upon the hospitality of other without being properly invited. I felt that they viewed us as rude and brash; stereotypical Americans. We were allowed to tour their home, I chose not to, again I didn't want to intrude. I met our hosts' daughter, Sarah and her boyfriend, William. Sarah didn't talk much, but William talked enough for both of them. He was wearing a t-shirt advertising T3, the new Terminator sequel out in the theatres. He told me he loves American movies. He said he is fascinated with America and asked me tons of questions. I finally had to walk away because he wouldn't stop talking. In retrospect I wish I would have toured the Smiths' home; I've always wanted to see the differences in lifestyles between America and the rest of the world."
