This layout documents our first family vacation, which started great then ended up in chicken pox.
Kit by Carrie Stephens called Chicken Pox.

Journaling Reads:
Our first family vacation is not one that we will soon forget. It all actually started right after the boys 2nd birthday. Colby got really sick: fever, not eating, & restless. We thought it was just the flu since it was going around the house. A few days later we notices some red spots on him. First thing we thought was chicken pox since there was an outbreak of them in town. We took him to the doctor and were told they didn’t think that’s what it was. Colby only had 5-10 spots and none of them formed a head. Thank Goodness! We were worried because in less then 3 weeks we were due to go to Disneyland and to see Gary’s mom. The day came to head to California and luckily we had seen no other symptoms of Justin getting sick. We had a wonderful time at Disneyland. The weather was perfect, it wasn’t crowded, we had a room overlooking California Adventure and they boys were on their best behavior. We spent a few days there, and then drove to Palm Desert. Had a nice visit then the day came for us to head up to the Bay Area. I had noticed the day before Justin had a spot in his hair, but I just thought it was a bite. As we are getting ready to leave I’m following Justin down the hall and notice a couple of spots on his neck. I take him in the room and pull off his pajamas. Spots…spots…and more spots. What do we do now? We still aren’t 100% sure it’s chicken pox so we decided to go ahead and drive up to the Bay. As the day went on he got a few more spots. We get to the Bay Area and decided we should head to a doctors office. Luckily the hotel we were in was right next to an outpatient office. We make an appointment and our worst fears are confirmed..it’s chicken pox. Now we are not only stuck in a hotel for 4 days, most of the people we were planning on visiting we couldn’t since they had kids, and the ones we could visit had to come to the hotel instead of meeting them anywhere. But our next thought was how do we get home? We are scheduled to fly out in a few days and we can’t get a doctors notice to say we are ok to fly until the following week. 5 days after we should already be home. We decided to wait it out and see how bad he got. So we sat around the hotel and watched Justin’s spots grow more and more daily and on top of that dealt with Gary having the stomach flu. The day before we were to fly back home we had to make a decision. Do we drive down to LA and try to get on our flight the following day or drive back to Missouri. Justin looked worse on that day then he had all week long, but the last thing we wanted to do was make the 3 day drive. We headed down to LA and hoped for the best. Luck must have been on our side; the next morning when we woke up he looked 100% better. So we got him dressed, headed for the airport and hoped for the best! We were so thankful when we got on that airplane and it was taking off. No one ever said a word to us. I did feel bad knowing he was still contagious, but not as bad as I would of felt driving 3 days back to Missouri with two 2 year olds (one who was still sick) and a husband getting over the stomach flu. What a vacation!
