Shortly I will be turning 40! Can this be? Is this the halfway mark? What a scary thought. I don't feel 40 and people tell me I don't look it. But oh! What a life I have had to this point. I have achieved so much that I set out to do and find my life to have been filled with much excitement and happiness without forgetting that little bit of pain thrown in for good measure.

Here are some of the most significant and memorable forty moments of my life so far (in no particular order):

-I had a wonderful childhood full of fun, love and laughter
-ducked and weaved in a helicopter over Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
-"triple thrillerd" in NZ - helicoper, white water rafted, jet boat
-my Year 8 class and I receiving a letter from Nelson Mandela
-appeared on "A Current Affair" when Hugh was a baby
-lived in Papua New Guniea aged 11
- took four tablets every day for a year due to TB contact
-slept on a rustic boat deck on the Okavango River in Botswana
-went shopping on the floating markets in Bangkok
-walked around Ayres Rock
-watched the sunset in five continents
-travelled to every state in Australia
-sipped cocktails in Tahiti
-trekked across glaciers in New Zealand
-thrived on a month bus trip throughout Europe
-made the crossing across the perilous Irish Sea
-rode a bicycle in Honolulu
-became a revered school teacher and role model to many
-taught all girls for some of the happiest years of my life
-had a masai warrior claim my hair was precious like a lion's mane
-married to my best friend and soul mate
-gave birth naturally to two adorable children
-cruised for a week down the Nile River, Egypt
-was taken out to dinner by two US airforce boys in Mombasa, Kenya
-thrilled at seeing the "big 5" in Africa
-took in the view from Table Mountain Capetown, South Africa
-had a monkey crawl onto and go to sleep in my lap in Zimbabwe
-visited Karen Blixen's house in Nairobi, Kenya
-lived and worked for almost two years in Namibia, Africa
-fallen asleep to the beat of the African drum and protests of hippos
-hitch hiked 200km to get food and water
-fled Africa for fear of being assaulted
-returned home to have counselling for not adjusting back to "normal life"
-walked the golden mile Edinburgh, Scotland
-completed a Bachelor of Education at Melbourne University
-went swimming in the Okavango River surrounded by kids and crocs
-celebrated Christmas in Venice, Italy and New Year's in Germany
-met and married within six months of our first introduction
-I was going to be the mother of all girls - I had a boy - and it is great
-have spent seven happy years at home caring for my children

Looking back now I can hardly believe that I have done some of these things. But I am so happy and proud of what I set out to do and what I have accomplished in these forty years. I am sure the next forty will be just as memorable surrounded by the love of my precious family.
