That is heart breaking.. I'm so sorry this happened. I know how much I love my pup and they become just like one of your kids.. thanks for sharing your story. I know it was difficult.
I am sorry that you lost her. I am bracing myself for things to come here also. My "Bear" (yellow lab) is 17 years old and is having difficulty getting up and down now. I am afraid that we may have to put her down if things get any worse. She is very loving and happy to be with us, but I am afraid that the pain she feels is getting worse.
how sad!! i have two dogs that are like my babies, so I can totally relate to how much pain you must have went through at that time. so sorry for you! beautiful LO.
On Sunday night around 3 o'clock in the morning. We were in California, on vacation, when the phone rings. It's about Shasta. She can't get up and the day before she wouldn't eat or drink. We can hear Shasta whimpering in the background because she can't get up. My mom tells me that it helps when she rubs Shasta's legs. While talking to my mom Shasta does finally get up. We thought that was a good sign. My parents ask us what they want us to do. What can you do at 3 o'clock in the morning? We tell them to take Shasta to a hospital later in the day. Which they do, but it all goes down hill from there. So, it's Monday and everything seems o.k. But Tuesday is a different story. On Tuesday, we get a call in the morning around 9 or 10 o'clock in the morning. It's the hospital calling to tell us that Shasta is in a lot of pain and needs to be put down. So, we pack up and head to Las Vegas. We know that we'll never make it back to Utah to be with our baby. So, on the way to Las Vegas we get updated on how Shasta IS. The vet had to put a needle in her just to relieve herself. We call Clayton's mom (Fara) because we want her to be with Shasta and we also wanted her with someone familiar. We did ask the vet if they could keep her comfortable until we got there, but that wouldn't have been until the next day. Shasta was in too much pain and we didn't want to keep her alive jsut so we could be there with her. We didn't want Shasta to be in anymore pain than she had to be. We thought that would be selfish. We decided to put her down so she wouldn't be in pain anymore. Fara had her cell phone with her. She called us so we could talk to Shasta one last time. Fara told us that Shasta had a peaceful look when she heard our voices. Shasta did try to bark at us, maybe to say good-bye or that she loved us, but it came out like a bleating lamb. That broke my heart because she usually has a loud bark. We were crying and telling Shasta how much we loved her and how much we were going to miss her.
Shasta went to Doggie Heaven on April 3 @7:30 p.m.
