I found the poem on the internet and I'm not sure who the author is.

I Adopted Your Cat Today

I adopted your cat today.
The one you left at the pound.
The one you had for years
and no longer wanted around.

I adopted your cat today.
Do you know she's lost weight?
Do you know she's scared and depressed
and has lost all faith?

I adopted your cat today.
Were you having a baby or moving away?
Did you suddenly develop allergies
or was there no reason she couldn't stay?

I adopted your cat today.
She doesn't play or eat much.
She's very depressed,
but she will learn again to trust.

I adopted your cat today
and here she will stay.
She's found her forever home
and a warm bed to lay.

I adopted your cat today
and I will give her all that he could need.
Patience, love, security, and understanding.
Hopefully, she will forget your selfish deed.

We are so happy that we gave this little girl a home. S’mores was only 2 years old when dropped off at Table Mountain Animal Shelter, pregnant with a litter of kittens. She had her kittens in foster care and was then taken back to the shelter. She was at Petsmart for quite a while, in fact they had her in a top cage and when that wasn’t working, they moved her to a bottom cage where people would see her better. When S’mores first came to us, she would not come out of the basement. She did not want to play and was terrified of any little sound. We had to be careful to walk quietly and make slow movements around her or she would get scared and run away. Tim and I let her hang out in the basement, carrying her upstairs once a day so she would understand that it was an ok place to be. When it was up to her, however, she preferred the basement. The first day she decided to come upstairs on her own, it brought tears to my eyes. Her first trip didn’t last very long, but eventually she learned that we were ok people and she could trust us. She has been with us for five weeks now and is gaining weight, has run of the whole house, cuddles with us on the couch, and plays with those things in the air and on the floor that only cats and dogs can see! We are so lucky that this tiny girl came into our lives!
