The pages I did for my circle journal - a page on "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou (one of the most inspirational, positive messages for women I've ever seen); My Role Model, My Mother (there's a tag you pull out from beneath the photo that explains why she is my role model); Business Woman - decided to make a cover for the page that resembles the pocket of my briefcase; and Sports & Women - love playing with shrink plastic right now.
Some of the journaling: Business Woman: "These are random thoughts from my 16 years in the hi-tech industry. A career in which I reached the highest level I could have imagined though never really planned – Vice President of Marketing. Today’s business world for the woman is still rooted in a world of double standards. Perceptions mean everything and talent and smarts can take you only so far. ollowing are things I picked up along my path. To be a successful woman in business is: - to live a life difficult to raise a family, - to be compassionate and understanding with your employees, - to care about the welfare of your people, - to develop and promote those in your charge - to create a strong, efficient team by whatever means possible, - to push and encourage, - to work harder than men without complaint, - to set a direction and communicate it, - to assert your authority and negotiate others’, - to speak your mind, - to put yourself into your work, - to rein in your emotions and act rationally and without feelings, - to step carefully through the landmines of egos, - to exude self confidence and intelligence, - to carefully consider your thoughts, words and actions before acting with strength and determination, - to be known as the Dragon Queen.
Sports & Women: "In a world where many societies value beauty above all else, especially in women, Sports is the escape, the other dimension; the world where women are accepted for what they can do and accomplish. Without Title IX in effect and the efforts of female athletes before me, I may never have had the opportunities and learned the lessons I did. So, for me, to be a Woman in Sports is to remember and honor the female athletes before me who made my participation in sports possible throughout school and university. Moreover, it is a place I learned many invaluable life lessons."
On each of the shrink plastic tags (Sports & Women) are the life lessons: "Deal with adversity, Healthy self-image, camaraderie, Active lifestyle, Achieve goals" "Strength, Self-confidence, Endurance, Win with style, Determination" "Work hard, Persevere, Support & Encourage others, Teamwork"
