Oh I hope they save it is would be sad to get rid of such a landmark. We have one here in town that was saved and restored. I hope to get pictures while I am at my parents.
I hope you can get it listed to save it. LOL at Erjaan, she is right!! My church is 1,500 years old and my house (quite modern) is 100years old next year!!
This is beautiful!! It's a shame that it might be torn down. Where is all our history going?? Here in VA Beach we had this wonderful seafood place that had been here for 50+ years and they sold out to build condos on the site. It was a sad time, and you know what gets me. They havent even built the condos and it has bee 3 years!
This lovely old theatre was built in 1947 and is in danger of being torn down. Inside, there are beautiful art deco trappings and elements, including floor-to-ceiling bronze murals. Here's a blurb I found on-line:
"Listed on the Anchorage Walking tour, and one of the oldest buildings in downtown Alaska (circa 1947), this 4th Avenue Theatre was created to be a "comfortable movie palace." Completely refurnished in 1992 to its original splendor, it is a conglomeration of floor to ceiling bronze murals and marble decor with an extensive collection of Alaskan history. The location is worth visiting for its historical properties alone, to say nothing of its theatrical and cinematic offerings."
I snapped this photo while driving up 4th Avenue, but I plan to actually walk over and get more shots inside and out.
