Quick layout for my latest adventure. Journaling is hidden behind the photo and reads:

SUN TOP – Mt. Rainier
4/12/2008

TR: 10 miles
Adventurers: Aaron, Kirstin

We had yet another eventful trip on Saturday. Avalanche conditions made us abandon our original plans and we made a decision to try for Camp Muir instead. As a matter of fact all 3 of us seemed to be quite excited about the change of plans. The weather was simply perfect for Muir trip: with blue sky route finding would be super easy and view guaranteed.

Any other year we would get to Paradise and enjoy the trip and views. This year it seems we had to change our plans more often than we could stick to our original plan; however this was the first time we actually had to change our alternate plan.

Just as we were nearing a town of Elbe we run into a back up. Soon it became obvious we were not going anywhere anytime soon so we got out of the car and went to check out what was the case. Sadly we found a pretty bad car accident and knew the road won't open for at least an
hour. There was a dirt road back way on a map that could take us behind the accident scene but the only thing we found was the fact it no longer exists.

After a brief ride back to Hwy 7 we learned that the accident was fatal and the road won't open for 2-4 hours and at that point our hopes to reach Camp Muir completely disappeared.

So we took a nice road trip and ended up at completely different part of the park, snowshoeing to Sun Top. Fortunately all three of us are pretty strong hikers and even with the very late start (we did not get on the trail until 11:15 a.m.) we completed the 10 miles RT before sunset. The weather was great allowing us to snowshoe in our t-shirts, enjoying warm breeze and the views from the top were pretty incredible.

Thanks for taking a peek.
