Hiking/Being Outside
I’ve been hiking ever since I was a little girl. First my dad would carry me in a child carrier, and then I learn how to walk and started exploring the woods on my own. I was fortunate to have large forests with a variety of trails within 5-10 minutes walk from the place I lived and real mountains just about half hour drive. Together with my friends we spent countless hours in a forest that we called “Behind the road.” It was closest to our homes and if offered variety of adventures and misadventures, including but not limited to jumping over the creek (and sometimes not quite making it), perfect bonfire place we called Old Oven and used often to bake potatoes in (and luckily did not cause any forest fire), variety of fallen tree trunks we practiced our balance on as well as thousands of trees we felt challenged to climb (and luckily did not end up with any broken bones), and not to forget the forest was perfect place to observe wildlife such as ants, frogs, birds, and when we were lucky we also caught a glimpse of a deer or a fox. I think another reason why we loved the place so much was because our parents did not really approve of us going there without adult supervision, and you know how tasty the forbidden fruit can be….

Traveling
Traveling was a huge part of my life even before I really started to travel. I had a book called Around the World with a Painter which was a wonderful encyclopedia of all countries accompanied by beautiful paintings related to each one of them. I used to spend hours looking through the pages and imagining myself traveling to all those exciting places I read about. As a matter of fact, one of the very first stories I wrote was about a trip around the world. It was about me and bunch of my friends and a wonderful summer adventure. I even draw a special car we were driving during that trip. The funny part is that all the characters were about 9 years old at that time. The truth is it wasn’t until I turned 22 when I left home for real and headed for my first big out of home country adventure in Great Britain. Also the list of places I really would like to visit grown quite a bit since, and on it’s top are: Machu Picchu, Everest Base camp, Bran Castle, Kilimanjaro & African Safari, Alaska, and New Zealand.

Writing
I started to write pretty much as soon as I learned how to write. I was always a dreamer imagining all the impossible and writing provided a wonderful outlet for my fantasy. My writing career did not have the happiest start though. It was truly jump started by a loss of a deer friend. I was 8 at that time, she was 10 and together we spend hours making up stories of all kind. Than one day she got sick and what the doctor thought to be a common cold turn out to be far more serious condition that eventually claimed her life. Never had I stopped wondering if things were different if she was diagnosed properly in the first place. The day of her funeral I decided I am going to pursue a writing career for real. I decided I’m going to make it – for both of us. I wrote multiple short stories by the time I turned 10 as well as some poetry. I had my first newspaper article published when I was 12 and started writing for papers on regular basis soon afterwards. Later in my life I returned to fiction and I’m hoping to have my first real book published by the end of the year 2008.

Cooking
I absolutely love to cook. The time spend in the kitchen is just like another kind of relaxation for me. It’s amazing to start with separate ingredients and end up with a delicious dish. I like to experiment and I am always up to try different cuisines. Some of my favorite dishes come from France, India, and Africa but my very favorite is of course my home country cuisine. I have to admit Czech Cuisine is not too healthy; quite frankly I believe it should be avoided for most part but I absolutely love it and will never be able to give it up – just thinking about all the stuff I grew up eating, the stuff that my parents used to prepare for me makes my mouth water. My favorite Czech meal is fried mushrooms and baby potatoes coated in butter with snippets of chives mixed in. Dipping all the little mushrooms in flour, eggs, and bread crumbs is little bit time consuming but the result is a fantastic dinner worth the time spend on its preparation. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that this is probably the only hobby I have my husband never had any complaints about.
