I wanted to scrap this proto from 2002 for such a long time and feeling the spring knowcking on our windows (even though it was snowing earlier today) it felt just right to do it. Journaling behind the pic says:

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a tourist destination in Northwest Washington State. Each year more than 1 million visitors come to see hundreds of varieties planted on over 300 acres.

I visited this wonderful festival many times but the very first visit in April 2002 was by far the very best. The weather cooperated and offered to view all the beauty in full sunshine with just occasional breeze. Another reason for this visit to became the most memorable is that I had never expected to see so many different varieties. While driving I was amazed by the colorfulness of the fields but my breath was literally taken away once I had a chance to stroll among the rows and see on my own eyes tulips I could never even imagine existed.

My favorite part of the tulip festival always was a visit of beautiful 3-acre display garden with authentic Dutch windmill - Roozengaarde -owned by the Roozen family, growing bulbs since the 1700’s. The majority of different varieties can be found here, labeled by name. I could spend hours there, sipping on hot chocolate, eating kettle corn which are two popular items sold in their kiosks, and enjoying the sweet scent of blooming flowers in the air.

There is so much to see apart of the flowers. Many artists display their work at various places around the valley. You can admire spectacular paintings, pottery, photography, and other crafts.
