Well, I have been struggling with what to do for this challenge... when I stopped at this marker (the second of three (only 7 tenths of a mile from my first one which was my PAD on 4-16) it was supposed to be my PAD today, but after reading it I decided it too major tallent to leave his home, explore new terretory and drill a well in the middle of this rocky, limestone prairie. the insrciption reads:
Christopher Comumbus Doty
First permanent citizen of Schleicher County, came to Texas from Missouri 1879, soon bought headquarters at tem-mile water hole (1/2 mi East), drilled first water well in county in 1882 and erected first windmill south of Concho River thus establishing areas agricultural industry
The organization of this county in 1901 included his property and he was ellected first tax assessor- collector. Later was Justice of the Peace a rancher, active Methodist, and Mason. He married Alice Pancoast on June 3 1887 and they had one daughter, Annie Marie.
