5th pages from my Europe Vacation - The Cathedral of Barcelona, and the Port of Barcelona.
Journaling: Day Three The night was spent in the Hotel Duques De Bergara of Barcelona. Mrs. Dunlap and I were blessed with a suite, complete with all wood floors, and a lovely marble bathroom. Our trip to the Hotel the previous night was our first taste of European driving – fast, crazy, and a little scary. One of the strangest feelings I had was there in Barcelona, that of being a foreigner. Although, most of the people we interacted with knew enough English to help us. June 8th After a breakfast buffet at the hotel, we set out down a large sidewalk, which was more of a “middle walk” with the cars on either side. The walk was lined with vendors selling souvenirs, flower, seeds and phone cards and eventually led to a covered food market. We moved from there to the chic shops to find Carley a rain jacket. We found one at a nine-story department store and had lunch on the ninth floor restaurant. Our next stop was “The Cathedral” of Barcelona, which had the most beautiful stained glass windows I had ever seen. Gold-plated statures and paintings of the saints lined the walls and many people had bought candles to burn at the shrine of the saint they were praying to.
