“My Sweet Orphan”

A layout of my daughter at 4-1/2 years old. The journaling is in the booklet at left. Thanks for looking!

Journaling reads:
This picture was taken in Spring of 2002 when Libby was about four and a half. Those happened to be tough days for our family, with several trying events happening in rapid succession. Just a few months earlier, my dad had suffered a minor stroke. It changed his quality of life as well as his personality and created uncertainty for the future. Shortly after that we'd watched the shocking events of 9-11 along with the rest of the world. That year our family also had many dear loved ones battling cancer, and sadly ten of them lost the fight before Libby turned five.
In the midst of all the stress and distraction, Libby came up with a new game. She would come find me and tell me that someone had just brought a new baby to our house. “C'mon mama. Someone delivered you a baby. Come and see,” she would say and then she'd run to the living room and set herself up in her orphan basket. The ultimate goal of the game, of course, was for mama to find the sweet baby to adore and cuddle.
I loved the orphan game because it let me put all my cares and worries on the shelf for awhile and just live in the moment.
