This is for May challenges: "No Boys Allowed," "Monochromatic Mania," and "Scrap that vacation or holiday"

JOURNALING: During Spring Break, Jennifer and I took a trip to Niagara Falls with Kay and Crissy.

Day 1: It took us all day to drive through a blizzard to get there. We were tempted to get a motel room in New York but decided to cross over into Canada, and we were thrilled to get a Falls-view room at Michael's Inn, right on the Niagara River.

Day 2: The snow had stopped, but the weather was frigid. We braved the fierce winds and paid 10 cents to walk across the Rainbow Bridge into NY. Even though it was April, much of the Falls were frozen solid. We spent most of the afternoon at a climate-controlled mall, then made the cold walk back to Canada. We spent the evening thawing out at the hotel pool.

Day 3: Much warmer, but it rained all day. We ditched our heavy winter coats for light jackets, and took a bus tour to see the local sights and learn the history of Niagara Falls. In 1985 the American dollar was worth more than $1.30 in Canada, so we had fun shopping for souvenirs. The highlight of the day was taking the tunnels under the Falls. What a thrill to see all the water pounding down just inches away! We also visited the Skylon in the afternoon and returned that evening for dinner in the revolving dining room.
Day 4: Warmer still, we were able to spend the day in shirtsleeves. We checked out of our hotel and drove across the river to NY, then onto Goat Island. There were so many lovely walking paths and great views of the Falls, that we would have loved to spend the day there, but we could only stay until noon and then made the 8-hour drive home.
