First monograms

Sorry but I peeked, K! THESE ARE COOL!! I especially love the orange one!! I use my xacto knife for nearly everything! and Wendy gave great advice about moving the paper not the scissors...that applies to the knife as well!! COOL BEANS!!! Can't wait to see more!! I'll be working on yours again next week!

K, they look awesome !! I like the fonts you chose. I use small super sharp scissors, the cutter bees are my favorites. You'll get the smoothest cuts when you turn the paper, not your scissors. Just guide the paper through the scissors and avoid using short, choppy cuts - use long smooth cuts. When I have really tight, sharp cuts to make, I use a little exacto knife that is pen sized. If I am matting the letter, I use a tool called a Magic Matter - it helps you make a perfect outline around ANY shape and then you just cut on the line ! I often get carried away, matting my monograms up to 3 times. lol

I use a razor blade, atleast for the straight cut in the center and do a cut threw the part you are tossing to allow more room for the scissors. I think your edges look great. If its not perfect its because its not done by machine and adds nice character to the monogram. I liked the backed look, but its time consuming and I try to stay away from it personally. Usually you can leave the centers on the backed paper, especially with the large B. The thinner B you might want to cut the center out of the bottom part, adn can go either way on the top. as far as BG paper use something to make it pop out. Like a darker shade of blue...I would go really dark unless its for a baby. I also like to mix textures. dots/stripes. Makes it eye appealing. Hope this helps...they look great! Add some ribbon, charm, fiber, brads, eyelets, whatever and you have a great monogram.
